In 1989, Ayrton Senna set the world’s fastest lap during the F1 Japanese Grand Prix Qualifying. The race itself would become one of the most notorious in Formula1 history and would be seen as the culmination of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna's tumultuous two year rivalry as team mates at McLaren.
After the data from Senna’s fastest lap was found as a single sheet of paper stored deep down Honda’s R&D storehouse, a former race engineer for the Honda F1 team analysed Senna’s gear position and how it shifted and thus the wheels for this project were set in motion..
